APAC Commodities Committee
Managed by our office in Singapore, the FIA Asia-Pacific Commodities Committee launched in 2016 and aims to meet regularly to identify, monitor and address compliance and regulatory developments affecting commodity derivatives across the Asia-Pacific region. Members also receive updates on developments around the region and globally. Membership of the committee is currently comprised of financial institutions and energy and commodities trading firms.
Initial activities include hosting a member roundtable discussing commodity derivatives trade reporting proposals from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), follow-up discussions with the MAS and hosting networking events.
FIA has also been actively involved in efforts to internationalize and liberalize China’s futures markets (initially focusing on commodities). FIA has commented on a number of proposals from the International Energy Exchange and the China Securities Regulatory Commission to allow domestic mainland Chinese futures products (initially crude oil futures) to be traded directly by overseas participants.
